ABC Afternoon Briefing: Hong Kong Protests

Peter Khalil MP spoke to the ABC’s Patricia Karvelas on his deep concerns for the ongoing police brutality towards protesters in Hong Kong, and the need for democratic leaders to stand up for the rule of law and freedom of expression.

I continue to be deeply concerned by the events in Hong Kong, including police brutality. A protester has been shot in the chest at close range with live ammunition. One of the demands of the protesters is an inquiry into the police tactics throughout the last three months. If democratic leaders in countries like Australia don’t stand up for people who are protesting peacefully for democratic rights, the rule of law and freedom of expression, then who will?
