15/04/2019

Peter Khalil, the Federal Member for Wills, visited the Moreland Zebras on Monday to formally present a $20,000 federal grant for upgrades to the roof of their home stadium at De Chene Reserve in Coburg. The upgrades are due to be completed by 30 June 2019

The Moreland Zebras were successful in their application for funding through the Stronger Communities Programme with the support of local federal member Mr Khalil.

“I’m so pleased to support the Moreland Zebras who are one of the many fantastic sporting clubs in my electorate of Wills,” said Mr Khalil.

“I’ve had several meetings with officials from the Moreland Zebras since my election in 2016 to discuss their vision for the club and their facilities. I hope this funding is only the start of what we can achieve together under a future Shorten Labor Government.”

The Stronger Communities Programme funds small projects to improve local community participation and contribute to vibrant and viable communities. Projects are identified by Mr Khalil and are assessed against the programme eligibility criteria.

The Moreland Zebras currently have 458 Registered Players including a fast growing female contingent of 75, or a Female Participation Rate of 16.4%. The Club fields teams in the Victorian NPL2 West Leagues as well as the FFV Female Community Leagues and MiniRoos Leagues

The club has been represented by many Socceroos over the years, including the likes of Mark Bresciano, Danny Tiatto, Paul Wade, Mike Petersen, Mehmet Durakovic and Fausto De Amicis.
