Peter Khalil MP Applauds Coburg West Primary School on Decision to Continue Greek Language Program

26/10/2018

Peter Khalil, the Federal Member for Wills, has applauded the decision by Coburg West Primary School to continue offering Greek language classes to students into the future.

The school had previously signalled plans to discontinue Greek language classes as of the 2019 school year, causing significant concern for some parents at the school and the broader Greek-Australian community. Mr Khalil wrote to the school earlier this month to raise the matter on behalf of his constituents.

“I thank Coburg West Primary School and particularly the school principal, Mark Cologrande, for taking swift action in response to the views raised by families in my electorate,” said Mr Khalil.

Coburg West Primary School falls within Mr Khalil’s federal electorate of Wills, which has a Greek-speaking population of 4.5%, as compared with a Victorian average of 1.9%, according to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
