Peter Khalil, Federal Member for Wills, has joined the outpouring of tributes for Sisto Malaspina who was killed on Friday in a terrorist attack in the Melbourne CBD.
Following Mr Malaspina’s identity being released by Victoria Police, Mr Khalil posted on Facebook to pay tribute to the co-owner of the iconic restaurant Pellegrinis.
“I, like thousands of Melburnians, knew and loved Sisto. I would go into Pellegrinis for a coffee or pasta and Sisto would always convince me to have dessert!”, said Mr Khalil.
“He was a true hero because, by all accounts, he went to the aid of the terrorist when his car caught fire and because of Sisto’s act of kindness going to the aid of someone he thought was in trouble, the terrorist left his vehicle, meaning he couldn’t drive it to a more crowded location to explode it. Sisto, in his final act of kindness, undoubtedly saved many lives.”
“He will be so missed and my condolences go out to his family and the broader Pellegrinis family.”
“We are all again angered by the terrorist attack in the heart of Melbourne. We are resolved to defeat this scourge of hatred and we are saddened.”
“Our thoughts are with all the families of the victims.”
