MEDIA RELEASE
PROVIDER IDENTIFIED FOR THE COBURG MEDICARE URGENT CARE CLINIC
The Australian Government is pleased to announce a provider has been selected to operate the new Coburg Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (UCC) following a competitive tender process led by the North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network.
ForHealth has been identified as the successful provider to operate the Coburg Medicare Urgent Care Clinic, which will be located at 444 Sydney Road, Coburg.
The clinic will be open seven days a week operating extended hours. The new Medicare Urgent Care Clinic will begin delivering urgent care for the community over the coming months.
The clinic will help to ease pressure on the Royal Melbourne Hospital emergency department, where around 30 per cent of presentations in 2024-25 were for semi-urgent or non-urgent conditions.
Over 118 Medicare UCCs are in operation across Australia, which have already seen around 2.4 million presentations since the first sites opened in June 2023. This includes over 507,300 presentations to the existing Victorian Medicare Urgent Care Clinics.
There will be a total of 29 Medicare Urgent Care Clinics across Victoria once all new clinics have been established.
Quotes attributable to Minister Butler:
“The Albanese Government is getting on with the job of delivering more Medicare Urgent Care Clinics for people in Victoria.
“The new clinic in Coburg will be open seven days a week, extended hours and most importantly they’ll be fully bulk billed.”
“This clinic will take pressure off the local hospitals, including the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and will fill an important gap in services across extended hours and over the weekend.”
Quotes attributable to Assistant Minister Khalil:
“We promised and now we’re delivering. Coburg’s Medicare Urgent Care Clinic will give locals in our growing northern suburbs a reliable, bulk-billed option for urgent care close to home, seven days a week, when they need it most.
“By treating non-life-threatening conditions in the community, Labor’s Medicare Urgent Care Clinic network is easing the pressure at emergency departments, so they can focus on the most critical cases.”
