The Hon Catherine King MP
Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government

Mr Peter Khalil MP
Federal Member for Wills

The Albanese Government’s election commitment of $500,000 for the Fawkner Leisure Centre Refurbishment has taken a major step forward today, with a funding agreement now in place with Merri-bek City Council. This agreement paves the way for works to begin on the $36,854,434 project, which involves design and construction of a new 50m pool, outdoor children's pool, associated electric plant and landscaping, steam room, spa and sauna, gym, cafe area, first aid room and solar panels.

The project is being funded under the Investing in Our Communities Program. Under this program, the Government is delivering community and sporting infrastructure, open space improvements and other community priorities intended to assist communities to build their strengths and improve liveability.

For more information on the program visit the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts website.

build on their strengths and improve liveability – and that’s exactly what the
Fawkner Leisure Centre Refurbishment is about.

“This is yet another demonstration of us acting not only on our election
commitments, but on our broader commitment to develop Australian communities
– including by delivering funding for projects that create jobs, build opportunity and
improve liveability.”

Quotes attributable to the Federal Member for Wills Peter Khalil:

“We made a promise to fund this vital project for Wills and we are getting on with
that job, with today’s funding agreement being a critical step forward.
