Peter Khalil, the Member for Wills, was today in Brunswick to announce that a re-elected Albanese Labor Government will invest in the redevelopment of the historic Gillon Oval to make it fit-for-purpose for generations to come.

This $3.325 million election commitment will go towards the renovation of the historic A.R. Glenn Grandstand, which is currently unsuitable and unsafe for use.

It will also address existing safety concerns by putting funding towards lighting upgrades to support night games at the oval.

This commitment builds on the Albanese Labor Government’s extensive work in supporting community sport and making sporting grounds safer and more accessible for the public.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.

Quotes attributable to Peter Khalil MP, Member for Wills

“Gillon Oval is a centrepiece of our community, and home to many local sporting clubs.

“This election commitment will make Gillon Oval fit-for-purpose not just for those playing sports, but for spectators and other community members using the grounds for generations to come.

“Our local sporting grounds and community ovals help foster connections and build a healthy and active lifestyle.

“Labor’s continued investment into community sport in Wills means locals will have access to high quality, accessible communal spaces to meet and play.

“Only a re-elected Albanese Labor Government can be trusted to invest in community sport in Wills.”
